No. This test is usually used as a barometer for individuals already diagnosed with certain types of breast cancer. Elevated CA 27-29 levels can be do to a variety of factors and should be interpreted by your physician. Some factors that may raise levels are(but not limited to):
Low CA 27-29 levels do not mean a person does not have cancer either. It is estimated that 25%-30% of breast tumors do not shed CA 27-29.
The cancer antigen 27-29 test is performed using a blood sample usually taken from a vein in your arm. You do not need to fast before taking this test.
